Before we proceed, because this study is very important,
it is recommended that you be comfortable with the Bible version being used.
If you would prefer to use a version other than the King James Version,

For 6000 years, men and women have been looking forward to the promise of a better life, one where God is foremost in our lives, one where there is no sin, no murder, no theft, no hatred, no cruelty, no opression, and the benefits of that world go on and on.
Up to now, all those looking forward to this reward, went into the grave without seeing this promise fulfilled, but with the faith in the Creator to recreate them when He comes into His kingdom. Hebrews 11:13-16
This is very soon to be rectified. How? All those faithful who have been waiting in the grave for so long will be raised from the dead to a new and better world, one which is without the degradation of satan.
However, not only are those waiting in faith to be raised, but everyone who has ever lived will be raised at one point or another.
There are three groups that will be resurrected:-
Group Bible ReferenceSequence
General Resurrection of the righteous 1Thessalonians 4:16 Happens when Jesus reaches the earth and is overhead calling forth all the righteous dead.
Resurrection of the wicked Revelation 20:12-15 Happens after the 1000 years that the saints have spent in heaven and return to earth. The wicked are then raised and punished.
This is the last resurrection and is referred to as "the second death".
The Special Resurrection Daniel 12:1-2 This is the first resurrection to happen.
It happens during the seventh plague (of the 7 plagues).
There are many righteous saints raised in this resurrection, but also, many wicked. Both these groups are each a select group in their own right. We are going to investigate this event called "The Special Resurrection" in this study.

This special resurrection is spoken of in a few places in the Bible.

Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.  Here Jesus is talking to Caiaphas and telling him he will witness the His second coming.
But how can that be? Caiaphas is long dead, and I doubt he will be raised with the righteous.
The answer is simple. Caiaphas is going to be raised in time to see Jesus coming in glory. Only Caiaphas? Let's see!

And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.  This is the same dialogue we just looked at in Matthew. Jesus is telling Caiaphas he will witness the second coming.

Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.  This is Jesus at His second coming. Notice it says "they also which pierced him:" . Again, How is this possible? I am certain that those who were responsible for putting Jesus on the cross will NOT be part of the resurrection of the righteous.
So, now it is not only Caiaphas who is going to be raised to see the second coming, but many who were involved in His crucifixion.

And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.  This is referring to the great time of trouble "such as never was" . More explicitly, with some more study, this is is happening at the beginning of the seventh plague when God's people will be delivered from the death decree which was described only a couple of verses earlier in  Daniel 11:44.

And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.  This is referring to a resurrection, but notice:-
And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake This is a resurrection that is occurring during the time of trouble.
This can not be one of the 2 major resurrections because the timing shows it is neither one nor the other. It says many, not all.
The general resurrection of the RIGHTEOUS happens when Jesus returns, which is at the END of the time of trouble. In fact it is the climax of that time of trouble.
This is also not the resurrection of the main body of the wicked because they are not raised until after the 1000 years in heaven.
some to everlasting life There are righteous raised at this resurrection.
some to shame and everlasting contempt There are also some wicked raised at this point.
No doubt this is where Caiaphas and "they also which pierced him" will be raised.

What we have just learned tells us that this group that has just been raised will see the second coming of Jesus, because Jesus told Caiaphas that he would see it. Matthew 26:64
This resurrection, as per Daniel 12 verse 1 , is happening during the great time of trouble, as the 7th plague starts. Notice what Daniel says only 2 verses earlier in chapter 11.

But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many.  Notice it is happening at the time of the death decree "therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many" . So this is just after the death decree and certainly before the second coming, and therefore before the resurrection of the righteous.

By contrast we look at the general resurrection of the righteous.

Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,  Paul is referring to the transformation at the return of Jesus. There will be some who do not taste death, but will be still alive when Jesus returns. He says that whether raised from the dead or still alive, we will be given new bodies.

In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.  This is the point at which the dead in Christ that were not raised at the special resurrection are brought up from the graves. Did you notice when it said this will happen? "at the last trump".

Which trump is the last one? Are there any more after the last one?
There was singing, fanfare, and trumpets all the way from heaven to Earth.
When are the dead raised? at the last trump.
The second coming is complete.
THEN the dead are raised.
So, those raised in the general resurrection do not see the second coming.
This is the big difference between the special resurrection and the general resurretion.
Those in the special resurrection see the second coming.
Those in the general resurrection do not.

We know the difference now between the two resurrections, but WHY the difference?
There is a passage in Revelation 14 that we need to look at.

And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.  This blessing is pronounced immediately after the third angel stops speaking. Revelation 14:6-12
And right after the third angel finishes speaking there is a voice "from heaven" which, of course, would be the voice of Jesus. He says there is a blessing for those "which die in the Lord from henceforth" , which means henceforth from the third angel's message.

Why is there a blessing for this group that does not apply to those who died earlier?. The verse indicates it is because of their labours.
Paul, the apostle, gives us a clue. He equates labour with the spreading of the gospel. 1Thessalonians 2:9 So, this group is getting a blessing because they helped preach the three angel's messages and died with faith in those messages.
But, WHAT is the blessing?
The verse says "their works do follow them" . What does that mean?
Remember Jesus said to Caiaphas that he would see the second coming? He was to see Jesus come in glory because he did so much to work against the work of Jesus. The opposite is true. Since 1844 when the third angel's, message was pronounced, there has been a group of people, called Seventh Day Adventists, who have been diligently preaching the 3 angel's messages.
For the same reason that Caiaphas and his cronies will see the second coming, so will those who have laboured to tell of His coming and warn of the perils of the mark of the beast see the results of their labour.
There is a distinction between the special resurrection of the righteous and the general resurrection of the righteous.
Another interesting point is that those in the special resurrection will see the resurrection of all the righteous who died before 1844, whereas those in the general resurrection, all being raised simultaneously, will not see the resurrection.

We saw who get the blessing and why they get this blessing, and now we see what is the blessing?

We see that those with the blessing will get to see the second coming, and those without the blessing do not.

This means that Caiaphas and his cronies get a special "blessing" because they worked strongly against the kingdom of God and those who died in the faith of the third angel's message get a special blessing because they worked strongly for the kingdom of God.

The sequence of the resurrections is as below:-

The Special Resurrection The resurrection of a handful of people at the seventh plague.
Some of these are from the wicked, such as caiaphas, and some are from the righteous, being those that died in the faith of the third angel's message.
People like Caiaphas, who are raised to see the second coming will be killed again along with the wicked who are still living.
