Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. (Continued).
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.
These commandments are encompassed by the second of the set of two (2) because if you loved your neighbour as yourself, you would not break them. If you break one of these, you have broken “Love Your Neighbour”.
You shall not covet your neighbor's wife.
You shall not covet your neighbor's goods.
Here they have divided a simple “Thou shalt not covet” into two pieces. This had to be so because they totally removed the second commandment about bowing to idols.
Notice that apostle Paul specifically refers to this as ONE commandment. Romans 7:7 Romans 13:9
As we have seen on the way through, the set of two that Jesus gave is simply an abbreviation of the 10 in Exodus 20.
Jesus actually made this connection Himself in Matthew 22:40
Paul made a similar connection in Romans 13:9
It is interesting that this changing of the laws was prophecied in Daniel 7:25 in relation to the AntiChrist.
The catholic church claims that it has the right to change times and laws, which is a fulfillment of the Daniel prophecy. Decretal De Translatic Espiscop. Calp.
They also admit to changing some of the laws. Catholic Catechism
In summary:- We have seen that it is necessary to keep God’s law. Before someone jumps and says “It is impossible to keep the commandments”, or “The bible says ALL have broken them”, let me say that if you build a 1000 bridges and one falls down, you are STILL a bridge builder. You are a bridge builder that makes mistakes. However, if you do not even try to build a bridge, or you say “I can not possibly build a bridge”, you are NOT a bridge builder. The same goes with keeping the commandments. If you give it all you have and fail occassionally, you are STILL a commandment keeper. If you say “It is not possible to keep them” and do not try, then you are NOT a commandment keeper.
We have seen that if you keep the abridged set of two commandments PROPERLY, then you are in effect keeping the 10 from Exodus 20. However, if you keep the 9 commandment set, which includes the catholic set, then by James 2:10, you are NOT a commandment keeper.
In closing, I shall point out the verse in Revelation 14:12 referring to the 144,000 (which are God’s people still alive when he comes again) saying that they keep the commandments and have faith in Jesus. and the remainder are those with the Mark of the Beast.
May God be with you and bless you all.
